engine swap
I have a 1985 z28 with a 305 in it. I have a rebuilt 350c.i. motor i would like to know if it is possible to put it the car. The engine came out of a 1979 chevy 2500 2wd. I have the complete truck and i would like to know what i need to pull from it to make the engine swap work. Any information that you have would be helpful. Please let me know something as soon as possible thank you.

RE: engine swap
shouldnt take anything from the truck, Pull the old 305 out and put the 350 in. Same mounts and all. If its a FI car youll need the computer, but if not, then you can scrap all that.

RE: engine swap
My camaro is a five speed. My father has done things like this before and he is not wanting to help me do this at all. He says the tranny and the rear end that is currently in the camaro will not work with the 350. He also said the radiator will have to be changed because that will not work either. I would like to how hard would it be to get the wiring done for it by myself? Other people have also told me that . The entire exhaust system will have to be switched out . The reason being is the exhaust manifolds will hit the sides of the engine bay. Is that true or not ? I have also heard that the drive shaft would have to be shortned? My main concern is about how long would it take to completetly swap the engines with running into any problems. Any links or anything you have regarding this would be extremely helpful.

RE: engine swap
all of that is possible but not likely, the blocks are the same size and the rear end would be fine if your not racing it with grip tires. the trans might be good, but i wouldnt take chances. the 350s were mostly autos anyways from what i hear. but the exhaust should be fine too. get some shortys and a catback for it, and you should be set.

RE: engine swap
the only things you'll need to change or have built better is the tranny, the t-5's will bolt up to a 350 they just are built to handle the abuse for very long. otherwise its a direct swap.
take the motor out of the truck, replace atleast the oil pan gasket(its so much easier out of the car) you can go further if you want. if your car is fi junk the trucks top end(unless you want to convert to carbed which will be a bit of work, and bolt the 305's top end onto the motor, you'll probably need to change the injectors up. everything will bolt right on, as for the radiator, only reason that wouldnt work is if the hose's are on opposite sides of what the trucks are, if their the same they will work, pull the 305, take the motor mounts off and attach them to the truck engine, and from there its a pretty direct drop in, motor will mount right up to the mounts and exhaust.
as for the rear end, the rear ends were all the same, from the 2.8 v6 up to the 350, it'll hold up perfectly, unless you beat the he!! out of it then you might ruin the posi unit, but you can do that with the 305 too. the drive shafts are also the same, as are the exhaust manifolds, there is absolutly no external size difference in the 305 and the 350, no offence if your dad does know his stuff like you say, he's feeding you a bunch of $hit because he doesnt wanna do it. a 305 to 350 swap is the easiest swap possible. the changes needed are extremely minimal. if your realy good or have realy good help, and have the 350 pulled and ready to go(with the exception of the top end) you can atleast have it bolted in in a day. we did a 305-350 swap on a buddys 79 camaro in a day starting at 6am and had it at the drag strip by 830 that night, granted the 79 has a bit more hands room and both of us were very far from our first swaps, but if can be done.

RE: engine swap
also a time saving tip,you might find it quicker to unbolt the power steering pump from the engine, and rebolt it back to the 350 once its in, rather than trying unbolt it from the gear box., thats if their the same
