Engine swap

Engine swap
I recently purchased a camaro that had a 3.1L v6. The motor was blown so i decided to drop a 1984 350 corvette engine into it. The person doing this for me said I would have to change change a few things for the motor to fit. I was under the impression that you could simply move the motor mounts and it would fit, since they came with 350's also. Am I wrong about this, or is the person just trying to get more money off me?

RE: Engine swap
putting a 350 into a v6 is no where near a straight swap, im on week 7 of my swap(only working 2-3 hours a day on it, but still)
just some of the things on the car that need changed
motors mounts(u can move the old ones but its a real pain in the butt and u have to do a little custom work to make them fit right, your looking almost a 6 hours project right there to do it right.
exhaust needs redone atleast the heads to cat.
wiring, wiring is a night mare even going to a carbed engine
radiator needs swaped
this is just some off the stuff gauges can realy suck too, v6 to v8 is no easy task i would imagine its not even close to cheap even if u do it yourself its far from cheap.
the rear end your wont have to change at all, unless u want a posi rear, nice thing about the v6's especially 2.8's was they had higher gearing than the v8's so that 350 is a bit more fun with the v6 rear, is u want the posi probably be cheaper just to have a differential put into it. if it was auto, and your still using a 700r4, then everything will be pretty direct bolt up there, the big pain is making things bolt up to the engine and going thru the mess of a wiring harness, i ended up just hardwiring most of my stuff and junking the harness.
o and if your going carbed, just blow pressurized air down the fuel line, instead of taking out the old pump, theres a seal in it that you gotta break and then the engine mounted pump will work, if your going fuel inject, just kiss your paycheck goodbye for the next 3 months [:'(] wiring a fuel injected up your probably looking at a full harness swap from another car.
as far as your mechanic trying to get money from you, for this swap he couldnt even make enough he'll be swearing at things left and right just getting the engine road ready.
one thing you may or may not want to change is the front struts and coils, that heavier v8 is going to push the front of the car lower to the ground, i think it looks cool like that, but you might have clearance issues some places. just a thought. if u got any more questions feel free to pm, just got mine fired up today, ject needs a good tuning on the carb, a new exhaust and a little clean up.

RE: Engine swap
One thing, find a new tranny, if it is a 700r4, it will not hold up that 300 horse tpi 350 coming out of that corvette for very long. If you put a shift kit in the tranny, it will be fine, but i would go looking for a turbo 400 tranny out of a suburban or a blazer. But no hes not trying to screw you it does take a lot of work and parts. I am doing a swap right now into a v6 rs (i just need an engine crane that friggin works)

RE: Engine swap
a 700r4 can be built pretty easily to handle 300hp, ive seen them built up into atleast the 400's, the one from the v6 wont mount up so dont even bother trying, just go get yourself a good 700r4(with a v8 bellhousing), take it to a tranny shop have it ran over good and tell that whats going behind it, they'll hook u up no problem. im not sure if the 84's did or not but i know quite a few of the corvette 350's came with 700r4's and the 4le60's(computer version of the 700). Unless your building something much more powerful i would stick with one of the 700r4's or its sister trannys, not only is the 4th speed nice but your car is already totally wired and setup for it. only way i would switch for a 350 setup is to go stick.
