Are the Iroc-z and z28 the same? On my door it says Iroc-z and on the dash say z-28 so i was wondering. I also want to put a manual trans in it. What is everything i will need. Also how do i tell if it is a 305 or 350? 305 is whats suspose to be in it but i was told that if it has center bolt valve cover it was a 350. If it is a 305 do they run as good as the 350. I just started to mess with chevys so bare with me. I also have a mild 350 in s10

 

i think one of the two was replaced sometime. i have never seen a car that had mixed badges.
i think the valve covers can be center bolt for either a 305 or 350. and i don't know a quick way to tell the size. if the engine is a tpi i think you can tell by the throttle body size and the fuel injector jets... but if the previous owner has mixed and matched iroc and z-28 parts, they may have altered these as well. and no... the 305 is not as strong as the 350 by 50 to 70HP depending on year.
if your s-10 is a manual then you have everything you need to make the camaro a manual trans car. transdapt and advanced adaptors sell kits to put an s-10 tranny behind your motor. since these are quite popular in s-10's i guess the s-10 tranny is strong enough to handle it. GM hasnt put a manual behind a 350 in a camaro (at least 3rd gen) so i dont know if they made them strong enough for that application. the t-5s that came behind the 305's are getting hard to find too. especially here in the southeast. all the ones i found online were in texas and california.

 

you should be able to run the vin thats along the bell housing of the block on the back side and it will tell you if you have a 305 or 350

 

Check the Vin number for engine code...eight digit, "F" for 305 TPI and "8" for 350 TPI.

 

the badge on the passanger side dash should say iroc-28 the door decalscan get put on by anybody. there is nothing visually distinguishable from the 305 to the 350.for the engine check the console compartment for a code for a 305 it will say LB9 with an enige code F ,or L03 with an engine code E for the 350 it will say B2l/L98 with an engine code 8. the 350 definatley has more ***** than the 305 but with the manually it tendsto be quicker. i am putting in a manual in my 350 iroc and all you need is a t-, 5 or t-56 tranny clutch, driveshaft, flywheel and a manual shifter boot plate. also all the linkage and the hardware.
