Default change to mechanical... good or bad?

i saw the"Chevy 305 build up links".then iremebered everyone telling me when i asked mechanics and car nuts about my computer problemsthat if i would convert my 1984 z28 with the l69 engine and a edelbrock performer on it, and3.73 gears out back it, to mechanical carb.it would get worse gas mileage. i know what needs to be done if i need to unhook the computer, but i thought a nice carb and distribtor will give me more hp. but i only get 10 mpg in town but 23 on the highway which isn't bad, but i usually only drive in town. i posted this just to see what others think.

thanks,
pat

If you have it running right there is nothing wrong with what you got. with changing over you would also need a controler for the TCC if you have an automatic.
I had an 84 Z28 and with some tweaking dialed in at a 15.5 and with no handicap beat a 69 Chevelle, along with eliminating other cars before, to win a trophy at the Wednesday night drags.
