My wife was nice enough to get me a T-Handle Shifter from B&M but I'm having problems with installing it. Let alone while driving it won't go into my lower gear. Is there anyone that has had problems with this shifter or similar problems with another?

 

If it is the one made specificaly for third gens it will only ratchet into the lower gears. From drive push it down and release and it will go back into its prevoius position but is suposed to be shifting into the lower gear. The lever will not tarvel far enough to shift without the ratchet mode due to it being inside a console and the limited space. Also part of the mechanism may be hitting the bottom of the console up front around the "P". That is B&M's wonderful design. Take out the top console screws and see if it shifts down then.

 

I got it to where all the gears work except park. It wants to go into gear but I can't seem to adjust the cable to where it will park. If I try to tune it, then I get stuck in 1st gear. It will allow me to drive in it but I can't understand why it's not parking. The shifter has plenty of room because my wife was in the car while I was underneath and shifting it up and down all the way. We followed the instructions step-by-step and don't understand why. Now we have to wait to see if someone can help us out on Tuesday since Monday is Labor Day and everywhere is closed. If you have any suggestions about why it won't park, please leave another message. Did you get the shifter that is for the Camaro console and is for a 4 speed auto? A shifter for a 3 speed auto may do what yours is doing since you should have a 700R4.
I think there is a spot in "My Profile" where it says you can upload a pic to your signature.

 

It is for a 3 and 4 speed. It's also for my make, model, and year. I went through B&M's website and eliminated all options except this shifter. There was a pin that you had to take out if you had a 4 speed instead of a 3 that allowed you to shift farther down. Maybe I should listen to my wife and take it to a shop. It will drive but sometimes it stick in the lower gears if I shift down. The specific part number is #80692. It is a Camaro Firebird 1982-1992 Console Mega Shifter. I think the instructions were a little hard for people who don't know specific names of cables or any other parts difficult to follow but I followed it to the best of my knowledge and it shifts when off and "parked" all the way up and down without a problem. Justwhen driving does it not want to come out of some gears or actually park. I will also call the company and see if they can help me. If not, to the shop it goes and see what they can do. Thats the right part number. I had one in my 84 Z28. But I did not have any problems like the ones you have. Is your cable routed as smoothly as possible? The pin at the end of the cable not hitting the trans?

 

I routed it as smoothly as possible, just the way the picture in the instructions showed. I think the problem is where you can tweek the cable to adjust the tension from the shifter t-handle (the one you have to raise to go from drive and up). If it's loose it will go into all gears but park. If it's tight it locks up in the gear that it's currently in. Who knows really? I guess I can call B&M tomorrow since they are probably closed today since it's a holiday. If they think it's defective then I can probably send it back or see if they can help me out. Now tell me. Does yours hit the bottom of the console as you use ratchet mode down into drive and lower? Mine would always push it up. It stripped the bolt holes out.
