91 rs 305 tstat ?

Default 91 rs 305 tstat ?

I was just wondering if putting a colder tstat would give me problems.The motor is all stock and as Im sure you guys know it runs warm.Ive heard that putting a colder tstat in these motors screws up the computer somehow.Thanks for the info guys.

When I had my 91, I replaced the 192 stat with a 180. Interior heat will be not as good though if you drive the car in the winter. The real issue with it running hot is not the thermostat, but when the radiator fan kicks on.

you can safely run a 180* with no issues. i used to run a 160* in my car, and it was borderline of creating problems. the only issue is that the ecm doesnt go into closed loop until 150*. if that temp isnt reached, the engine will run rich and the torque converter wont lock at highway speeds. but it does not make up for weak fans, or that the factory has them set to turn on at a rediculously high temp
