I have an 89 Iroc with the 5.7 TPI, I have recently blowen the head gasket.
I have a nitrious kit i will be installing and im wanting to run around 400 hp with the 100 shot of nitrious, so i need to know on a budget if i should rebuild this engine or buy a whole new engine?
Well thanks for reading enjoy

If you want 400 including the 100 shot you need to be at least 320 just motor. Your stock unit even rebuilt will not be there. Plus with my experiences you need to be very careful in how you set that up. I highly doubt you will have the fuel flow required with that much nitrous, also I doubt your bottom end, and rotating assembly are up to the task. If you do not flow enough fuel you will put holes in your pistons. Do a lot more research on what you need to effectively use nitrous. If this is a street car, and not a drag car, I would have to ask myself when you are going to be full throttle for an extended period of time to even utilize nitrous.

what times are you looking to run? Will you be going 1/8 or 1/4 mile?
Is there a specific class you are interested in running? Some have specific requirements about what can and can't be done to the vehicle with respect to chassis, suspension, exhaust, interior, engine etc
I'm not assuming that you intend to run nitrous on the street
last but not least, what is the true and realistic dollar amount that you have readily available to spend? How much can you do yourself (honestly) is also a factor.
are you in rural America, tier 3 city or a tier 1 city? The more populous the area the higher the cost for machine work.

You will need to buy a crate motor and you can order one with that horsepower right out of the box. But, you have to make sure that the transmission and rear end can handle it, too. On top of that, you need a suspension and brake upgrade. So, think this all out before you make your move and good luck, it will be well worth it in the end (if you do it right)!

As my wife will attest I'm not very bright but why in the hell can my stock 5.7 hemi push out gobs of power compared to stock 5.7 350? We have a 87 iroc z28 with 5.7 and would at least like to be at 3. Not for racing just driving with T tops off..
