88 iroc-z overheating problem
i have a 88 iroc-z 5.7 tpi and on trips that take me like more than 25-30 miles she starts to get hot or if i am running her real hard she gets up to about 220 degrees i though posssible stuck t-stat and so i bought a 160 t-stat that didnt help i went as far as take the t-stat out completely that didnt help i think my fans arent pulling enough air flow anymore to keep it cool but im not sure i am thinking about going with 2 higher cfm fans to pull the air and also im planning on putting a seprate transcooler instead of having it run through the radiator and also a oil cooler do yall think any over this will help with keeping it cool thanks bryan0609

This is normal. Don't ever take a thermostat out, it runs the coolant too fast and won't let it sit in the radiator long enough to cool down. Put a higher psi cap on and put in a 190ish thermostat. Those cars are made to run hot. I don't think the fan even kicks on till 230. The low compression motors of that era were made to run hot, lean, and not so mean.

but see i have even hard wired the fans to come on instantly when i turn the key they come on and i know not to run with out a t-stat i was just tryin to see if my water pump wasnt pushing hard enough throw the stat to cool it

hey, not to be a thread stealer but i have 1 quick yes or no question.
Is my 305 in my 87 suposed to be really hot? like let it idle for 2-3 min and rev it a bit, and i wont even be able to touch the big rad hose its so hot, and opening the hood, its like a huge burst of hot air, my question is, is this normal?
