Default 86 z28 question

Hey guys i have a 86 z28 camaro with a 305 in it i cut off the muffler today and the sound difference was almost nothing, it basically sounded the same with the muffler on. is this engine supposed to be fuel injected or carberated? mine has a 4 barrel carb on it for some reason. thats how it was when i bought it. i want to the to sound like a actual muscle car should i cut the cat off to? what should i do? i heard that if i did cut the muffler and cat off that it doesnt have enough back pressure and i will suck in a valve or somthing, is that with fuel injection, carberator, or both? i want it to be loud like a muscle car should. help would be great, thanks.

please dont jerry rig the crap out of it. but it sounds like you are going to anyway. 86 had the option of tbi, tpi, and carb. if its a carb, it will need tweaked to richen the fuel up. if tbi or tpi, it will self tune. if it didnt get much louder, what muffler was on it to begin with? it could be that the cat is clogged or dislodged. if you do cut it off, use the $20 in scrap value and get a cheap glasspack and put the mid pipe back on so you dont set the floor on fire. as far as sucking or burning a valve, it wont happen

A new exhaust system is affordable. I would consider Flowmasters or turbo mufflers. Probably $200-250. It sounds like your catalytic converters are clogged. The new exhaust will make your car feel like a rocket compared to what the clogged system has been. Consider a performance type muffler shop in your area.
