Question 5.0 TBI to 5.7 TBI

Hey guys new to forum. I have a couple questions. I have a 1991 Camaro RS with 5.0 TBI. Im thinking about building a motor with a 5.7 Block and heads. I want to keep the the orginal intake (TBI). I was wondering how far i can push the TBI with a 5.7 as far as displacement. I want to build a 383 stroker but dont know if the TBI would keep up the with demand with the bigger displacement/hp. If not maybe a mild 355ci so can still be a daily driver? Also can you send the ECM to be recalibrated? Can someone please help?

Someone will help you with all your questions. This computer fuel delivery is not my bag. I believe they will tell you to dump the TBI for the TPI so you can change your injectors to fit your horsepower needs. Welcome to the forum mhavel.

This is what you need:

350 ESC module - GM 16128261
350 knock sensor - GM 10456288
prom chip & injectors from 89 Caprice Cop car

You are going to need a lot of money. I went from 305 TPI to 350 TPI, and spent about $10k.

If you can do most of the work yourself, it'll be cheaper, but even so you can expect to need a lot of money.

Here's my swap thread, if you want to have a look.

tbi swap would need just the knock sensor, larger injectors and prom chip. if you are doing anything more than a mild cam and headers, contact www.pcmforless.com for a custom prom chip to be made. aside from the motor, that all would all be under $500

What about it throwing all the codes? will changing the PROM chip in the ECM make the whole dash light up!
if i bag all the Emissions crap and put a regular Carb on the car and get the
350 ESC module - GM 16128261
will it still show the Check Engine Light??

With the proper 350 prom chip, nothing should light up on the dash and in fact you can get certain check engine light errors eliminated with a custom chip. If you put a carb on your car ,you may not pass your states inspection either. Much easier to get the TBI working correctly.

This is your best bet for a custom prom designed for 305 to 350 conversions. These work great! TBI Computer Chip for 350 F Body | eBay

okay, i am thinkin about just doing without all the emissions cause there are no restrictions here where i live, i have to change the Carb and do i need a external fuel pump ?. What do you think would be best because right now i have the 350 set in place bolted up and i have all the Wiring EVERYWHERE and i have none of the hoses for the emissions anymore,,, what do you think i should do?

You can do without the emissions "stuff" but you had better know what stays and what goes. If you go carb, you want less than 10 psi going from the pump to the carb....so mechanica pump may be the way to go. How is your distributor connected? Stand alone, or cpu controlled timing? All of this is important to make it run the way you intend.
