I am thinking of de-stroking a 400 sbc to a 377. What are eveyones thoughts on this. Just thought it would be cool to have a small block that could rev up to 10k rpm and still make big power

 

377 are ok, but i would go the stroker route, i.e. 383, it wont rev 10k, but itll have a lotof revving ability, as wellas big block torque characteristics

 

Why not find a 327 block? They are quite comfy at 10k

 

I heard of a guy take an ls1 block and destroke it with a 327 crank (????) cant remember what crank he used but i think thats it. Spun it up to 11k. It was stupid fast. since then ive always wanted to do a destroker

 

The 1st gen Z28 was a destroked 327, down to a 305. Used a 283 crank to meet the SCCA trans am racing series rules.

 

305 typo?? 302 ....... The 377 is a real nice engine athough I wouldnt want to give up the stroke of a 406. I also would be a little concerned with 10000 rpm on a factory 400 block it would take some good balancing and a splayed 4 bolt block.
