Default 305 TBI fuel reg

Well, I'm now also the owner of a 3rd gen. I have to swap out the fuel pump (sorry boys but I'm cutting the hatch). Should i replace with a TPI version that is higher volume?

I'm going to rebuild the engine and may change the cam a bit. Will the stock reg still be ok if I change to a higher volume pump?

I'll start a thread soon once my lazy butt gets around to it because I'm restoring the car inside and out

Use the right fuel pump that's rated for the TBI, or it could cause problems. It takes more pressure to spray through 8 separate fuel injectors in an FI setup as opposed to the two injector pods in the TBI unit. What were you hoping to gain by using a higher output fuel pump anyway?

I haven't yet decided if I'm going to keep the 305 or if i do, I might lightly port those lovely heads and when I'm changing the cam during the rebuild, I may upgrade a wee bit.

My intent is to sell it later and i am clueless if the stock pump could supply enough flow if I upgraded the cam and got a little better flow on the heads.

The stock exhaust manifolds are going and I'll toss in some shorties and 2 1/2 or 3 inch all the way back via Y pipe

Or, I might just toss in the oem style because with the access panel and spliced fuel lines, I can easily replace it again if i do end up tossing in a 350tpi instead of keeping this. There's a swap meet coming up and I'm keeping my eyes open for bargain engines.

Porting the 305 heads would be a wasted effort. They're dogs and can't be made into good performers. If you go with a better cam, you'll want to dump your current heads in the river. Here's some handy info on the TBI unit, if you want to mess with something in the meantime.

The stock air cleaner for the TBI leaves a bit to be desired too. Here's what I did with mine: https://camaroforums.com/forum/showt...hlight=cleaner

If i was building this for myself then the 305 would be coming out. Thanks for the links.

So far, I found a 350 but missing a few parts for $500, a high mile LT1 (don't want to buy and do a rebuild) and a rebuilt 350 for $1,000. If I find a bargain, then I won't go the rebuild route. I want to be able to offer a fresh engine to the future owner.

I'll know when I open it the condition of the current motor and maybe I can get away with just honing and putting in the kit.

I like this because I'm going to take my time and look for creative ways to get things done.
