I like the 305 but my only problem with them is that the shock heads aren't worth a ****. On mine I switched them out with 350 heads and solved that problem the plus side is the 305 pistons are perfect for nitrous so you have a good base for engine mods. Personally I blew my 305 and just swapped it with a 400. But that was my 82 Z28 I don't know much about the tpi so thats just my 2 cents

while on the topic of the ole' 305, anyone have any good records with headers/exhaust? Also, anyone know if there is a place on the web where I could listen to X exhaust system on Y model car/motor? I'm starting to look into some stuff for mine, and was just wondering if anyone could save me some time and headache (and money from bad deals).

Not to make light of Sick's engine, which is really working for a 305, but if you really want to make power using a small displacement engine, build up a 302. This combination has the bore of 4" like 350, allowing the use of large valves with minimal shrouding, and a 3" stroke like the original 265 for crazy revs without stressing the motor. This combo was used in trans-am racing and with modern heads and cams can put out over 450HP at around 8,000 RPM.

They are not longer sold as far as I know, but one can be put toghether fairly easily. Start with a 350 block, put in a forged crank with a 3" stroke, 6" forged rods, and the appropriate pistons. Balance the whole rotating assembly. Get a solid roller lifter cam than can rev past 8K, the right valve train and you are almost there.
