first- did you ever find out what was leaking?

next, here we go again. Someone with a vehicle which is at least 20 years old wanting to replace heads and valve train on a 305.

Please do a search on that question about performance and 305's and then perform a cost/benefit analysis

I assure you, between this forum and others, your question has been asked at least 6 gazillion times with the same answer given over 80% of the time (majority can't be wrong)

Comp cams make amazing street camshafts. I would personally go for part of the xtreme energy line-up. With the xtremes you will need to change valve springs and lifters though. This is the summitracing link to them.
COMP Cams 12-242-2 - COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Camshafts - Application - SummitRacing.com
If you dont want to be changing springs and lifters go for a thumpr cam
COMP Cams CL12-601-4 - COMP Cams Thumpr Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam and Lifter Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com
In my opinion i wouldnt even go to 490 with stock springs.
