Tranny Drain Plug
#5
If you are talking about the transmission oil cooler line, make sure you disconnect the one going toward the radiator, at the radiator end. Let the engine idle with transmission in park. The fluid will shoot out pretty fast, so be ready to collect it. When it stops flowing, turn off engine and re-connect the line. Refill transmission & check level with transmission warm and engine running. This procedure will also pump out the torque converter, so you will need a few extra quarts of tranny fluid. One problem, you still have to drop the tranny oil pan in order to change the filter.

is my understanding that running a trany dry is not good for it. especially an older trany. i didnt get to auto trans in school. had to quit to take over the family bussiness. anyways pete is better schooled so will bow to his wisdom. thanks pete

Just make sure to turn the engine off as soon as the oil stops flowing. The tranny can run empty for a few minutes (enough to shut the engine off) without damage, as an oil film is still coating the moving parts.
