Default running problems

ok heres the deal i was given a 1990 rs with a 3.1
t tops and in great shape for an older car
but it will not run well sort of
i can get it to start and move but I have to pump the gas to keep it running or to move.
what might be the problem?
It kinda acts like a carbed motor thats about out of gas you now how you can pump the gas to get it down that last mile to the station when it on fumes.

Have you tried the basic plugs, cap, rotor, wire set? Any vacuum leaks? You may also want to check your fuel pressure.

You can buy a fuel pressure test gauge from your local parts store. They're not that expensive and comes in really handy when working with fuel injection. The test port is located in the back of the upper intake manifold plenum. It has a silver cap that looks like a A/ test post. Don't drop the cap when you unscrew it. Screw on the test gauge onto that test port and key on several times without starting. Should read about 40 psi. How old is the gas in the tank?
