So I went to start my Camaro and it began to shake violently and then I heard this sound. The car will start and idle, but when I press on the accelerator it doesn't rev up much at all. Just a slight increase. The knocking sound pretty much sounds like some one tapping a metal bar against the car. Any thoughts?

 

Does not sound good. Has the sound and action of a thrown connecting rod. Look underneath the engine, see if the oil pan is dented out or if the block is cracked on the side. That would be a definite sign, but not necessary needed with a thrown rod. Don't run the engine any more till you get it figured out. You can pull the spark plugs, disconnect power to the distributor, and have someone crank the engine while you hold a finger over each of the plug holes. If you have a dead cylinder, you'll know it by having no pressure pushing your finger out.

Thanks guys! Well I guess it is time to buy a car for me because I don't have a place to pull the engine or the money to pay someone to do it. It was exactly what I was dreading. lol and then my Seahawks lost. Time for a change!

 

If the compression test is even between cylinders, check for a jumped timing chain. Could be valves hitting the tops of the pistons.
That could cause the loss of power.

 

Sheesh, don't write off the engine as dead yet until you do some diagnostics.

 

I can't imagine that he would but given his comments.

Maybe he's still upset that luck finally ran out for the Hawks.

 

Follow what the Hawks should have done...
Run down to the garage and check for compression.
Don't Throw a fit just yet!

 

With videos it is always hard to say but my first guess while watching was bent pushrod or a busted valve keeper.

A quick check you can do is to pull the dip stick and shine a bright light on it. If there is a lot of sparklies in the oil you have big problem. No sparklies mean you may have a much easier repair. Sparkies= metal and don't be afraid to use a magnifying glass to check it.
