how to remove timer

Default how to remove timer

just bought my first camaro 1986 with a v6 2.8 multi port but it has no fire we have a new pickup coil for it but can't see how the timer comes out to put it in ,if anybody could help me thanks;

It's been awhile since I did mine but I think you have to remove the distributor drive gear first. Use a flat punch to drive the roll pin out. The upper shaft slides out from the top. Then there is a really thin cir-clip holding the top of the pickup. Someone will chime in soon to confirm this.

Did you try having your distributor module tested first?

Default timer issue

thanks, i don't see the roll pin though theres the shaft that comes up through the metal cover that sits on top of the pickup coil is the pin just through that shaft? it's rusted a bit so maybe i'll have take a piece of sandpaper and just give the shaft a rub to expose the pin , also i did not change the module i believe thats the black box that the pickup coil plugs into my buddy suggested that also but when we unpluged the pickup coil from it the plug on the pickup coil was bad so it though we would try that first.
