Default Defroster Timer?

For some reason, my defroster switches off in about 2 minutes (sometimes less). Is it on a timer? Can this limit be increased?

BTW, I have tinted window if that makes any difference....

They are usualy on a timer built into the relay. Firts time on should last about 10 min and the second time switched on about 5. Replace the relay.

I just called the GM dealer and they said there is no relay, the entire assembly (heater control) has to be replaced. Does that sound right?

At $220 + 14% taxes, I need to be 100% before I change parts

Redneck, I am in Canada and this is my winter beater. So yes the defroster is important.

It's a simple timing circuit, can't remember if it's resistor/capacitor or Q driven circuit. But I do know it has a VERY cheap plastic case relay which has a desire to melt off the PC board. And yes, the heater control, air flow and fan switch are all part of the same assembly but the defroster board is removable.

If you're handy with a solidering iron and want the satisfaction of DIY look here for a simple 12V timing circuit: http://www.reconnsworld.com/forum/read.php?8,237

a 1000 uf cap should give you about an 8 minute cycle time.

Its a defogger control. But people seem to understand better when it is refered to as a relay. So my description was not perfect but neither is yours as in what year your car is. All we know is its a V6 Camaro because of where you posted.
