Defroster Timer?
For some reason, my defroster switches off in about 2 minutes (sometimes less). Is it on a timer? Can this limit be increased?
BTW, I have tinted window if that makes any difference....

RE: Defroster Timer?
I just called the GM dealer and they said there is no relay, the entire assembly (heater control) has to be replaced. Does that sound right?
At $220 + 14% taxes, I need to be 100% before I change parts

RE: Defroster Timer?
It's a simple timing circuit, can't remember if it's resistor/capacitor or Q driven circuit. But I do know it has a VERY cheap plastic case relay which has a desire to melt off the PC board. And yes, the heater control, air flow and fan switch are all part of the same assembly but the defroster board is removable.
If you're handy with a solidering iron and want the satisfaction of DIY look here for a simple 12V timing circuit: http://www.reconnsworld.com/forum/read.php?8,237
a 1000 uf cap should give you about an 8 minute cycle time.
