3.1 to 3.8 swap
Hey there I'm new to the forum... I'm fixing to buy a 92 RS five speed. the engine is bad... I have a 3.8 v6 out of a fourth gen camaro. Was just wondering what all I would have to do to swap will my tranny hook up to it? do i need to swap ecu's and wiring harness's OR would I be better of using my 350 vortech carbed and throw a 700r4 in it? the rs is 600 bucks. and I've got most of this stuff laying around just trying to figure out the best way to do it.

If you're doing all the work yourself, you'll be better off with the 350. It's gonna entail the same work as swapping to the 3.8, and you'll enjoy the results more.
If you're going to be paying someone to do it, you're better off looking for a car that already runs and forgetting about doing a swap.

I think the 3800 swap would be great but the computer system will be a stumbling point. You are either going to learn how to reprogram the PCM or pay someone to do it. In it stock form the PCM is looking BCM, ABS model, VATs and a few other thing. You can program all that stuff out.
3800 in the lighter 3rd gen could be a fun car to drive. With he right intake and exhaust you could hit 220hp and 30+ MPG.
There would still be a fair amount of work, Motor mount may be hard to find. GM only did the 3800 one yea in the Firebird. But they should exist. Exhaust/headers would end up being custom.
