2.8 common sense
have actually always been happy with the power an performance of my 87 and i dont need a rocket, but just wondering what are the basics inmaking the most ofthe available power in the 2.8 V6?
do they respond well to bumping up the timing?
any particular spark plugs they respond well to? etc...
not looking to make any real mods or chasing a lot of horsepower, just looking to make her comfortably perform her best.
thanks, Bill

thanks, but i really dont need another 100hp. gettin old i guess.
but surely theres 5 or 10 horsepower just laying in there almost free for the taking.(plugs, timing, air cleaner, etc.)
hopefully when some of yall tried to go hardcore on these motors you figured out some of the simple things that these motors preferand strive on.
all motors seem to have preferences i'm just not real up to speed on these.
soaside fromturbo and boring them out etc. just hoping there were some tried and true basic things yall could pass on to help her run her best.
im really not wanting or expecting big gains, just mostly common sense stuff yall have learned through the years.

Keep it simple with basic tune-up and maintenance and just look in keeping a good reliable vehicle. There's not much that can be done. I've tried the phase II performance camshaft from Anderson Racing when I did my overhaul and didn't feel much boost. I think replacing the tired internal parts brought it up to specs. You can try bumping up the timing and free flowing the exhaust alittle to see if it helps. If I was to do it again I would look for a 3.1 or 3.4 to start off with.
i bought my 88 camaro 2.8 with the timing advanced and to tell you the truth it does help i put it back at normal idle and it was slower just a couple days ago i beat a v8 dodge ram, ls civic and i have 17inch centerlines on there and pawengineparts.com has a superstock kit for the 2.8 800.00$ 350hp call them though it aint on the website anymore 818-678-3000
