Default synthetic transmission fluid

I was considering replacing old dexron with synthetic in my 700r4's. Is there any cause for concern?

are you presently having an issue and hope the fluid will fix it? Or, do you just want to use synthetic?

No issue. I had planned on a drain and fill this spring, and I thought about using dexron synthetic.

Since you don't want to use synthetic oil in a rear posi diff (clutch pack style), due to the chance of causing the clutches to slip, I'm a little leery about using synthetic fluid in the trans, which also has clutch packs. My "leer" may be for nothing, since "oil" and "fluid" are different animals, but I'd check more into that aspect. Fwiw, the majority of recommendations I've found to use synthetic is coming from the oil companies (go figure). Synthetic can withstand heat better than conventional, so if you find support to use it (no reports of slip), go ahead.

How long have you been a moderator?

Anyway, my intention is to add life to the trans, not to make the clutches slip. If conventional fluid got too hot I would say there is an other problem to address.

Wink

I actually had you in mind for an answer. I thought you knew everything. I was concerned about springing leaks like I've heard about adding synthetic crankcase oil, or something like that.

lmao.....I don't need to spend money on a doctor, a new hat would be cheaper.
I'm sure there's something I don't know, but right now I don't know what that is.
