Shifting Problems

Shifting Problems
OK, need some more help...
Other than the low idle that I need adjusting, the other issue is the shifting. The 700r4 transmission was rebuilt less than 12k miles ago and I never had this problem until the other day.
When I'm getting on the highway, with the shifter in OD, it seems to fail to shift from 3rd to 4th for a few seconds and then finally does so with a jerk. If I down shift from OD at that speed and then shift back up to OD, it doesn't happen. However, while this happens, I lose power (not electrical power) but "power", power.
The tranny is rebuilt, I did have the transmission mount replaced and new cat's put on. All lines/hoses are also connected and tight underneath the hood/chasis. Throttle valve cable is correct. I do need a transmission flush as it is reddish-brown and burnt smelling, but would that be a probable cause for this?
Any ideas or suggestions?[/align]

RE: Shifting Problems
[:@][:@] well lets start with the reddish brown fluid that stinks. this is never good and especially in such a new tranny, it means that something is not functioning right and excessive slippage is occuring and or unable to get rid of the heat the trans is developing. there is a good possibility the two symptoms are related and id really suggest a return to the shop that rebuilt it so we dont do any more damage.
it sounds as though maybe your lockup converter is failing, check for proper adjustment of the throttle valve cable as well kurt

RE: Shifting Problems
As Kurt mentioned, bad fluid in such a new transmission means there is a transmission problem. Either the transmission wasn't rebuilt properly, or not at all. Burn't fluid is a sign of slippage, either from overloading or failing friction parts. You can try changing the fluid, but I suspect the damage has been done.
