When I bought my "89 it has a significant howl from the rear end. After some searching I found a posi rear end for sale. $150 I thought that was fair enough, if it's good.I have read articles that say to look on the passenger side axle tube for a number to determine just what rear end you have. If mine ever had any numbers, they are gone now. I can;t find anything on either axle tube. All I know is, it take about 2 3/4 turns of the drive shaft to rotate the tires one revolution. Is hat enough information for the brain trust here to determine the ratio? Thanks Geg
After doing a little research, it appears I have a 2:75.1 gear ratio, or there abouts. Duh ! I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's what I have. I just hope it doesn't howl.
I know nothing of transmissions and rear ends. I have had some success putting a few motors together, but once you get past the flywheel, I know nada. According to the number of bolts, and the bolt pattern, it is a 700R4 trans. I have been told this would not be stock for this car. Again, I don't know. I bought this car from a farmer in southern Iowa. He bought it as a project for him and his son, when his son was in high school. After high school the son went off to college. He came back after 4 years, got married, and the car just sat all this time. During the time they did work on it, they replaced a lot of parts. All new brakes, lines, drums, calipers, and hoses. New shocks and springs, to name a few. I replaced the rear shocks with air shocks while I had it apart. I have also replaced the fuel pump, filter, lines, and throttle body injectors, and a few other things. The inside was pretty much gutted when I git it, but most of the pieces were there in the car. I found some more pieces and a junk yard from an "85 Berlinetta. The Berlinetta actually looks like someone drove it in, parked it, and walked away. It shouldn't have been junked. I don't think. If I live long enough to finish all the projects I have, I may just buy the whole car, AFTER checking to see how many bullets my wife has in her gun.
I have this pigtail hanging down near my trans, not connected to anything, and I cannot find anything to connect it to. Also, my cruise control is not working. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other or not. My transmission seems to be functioning properly. It shifts fine. Slamming the pedal will kick it into passing gear as it should. Originally, the speedometer did not work. I replace the gear in the trans and it works now, but it is off by ~ 5 mph @ 60. It is slow.
Anyone have any idea on where it goes< or went at one time? Thanks Greg
