92 transmission conversion *Manual to Auto*
No, I don't have that backward. I have found tons of info on auto to manual conversions but not the other way around. I need to know what all is needed to convert a manual 5 speed over to an automatic transmission. I have a 92RS 25th anniversary purple haze with the manual trans. Giving it to my son but due to disabilities he can not operate the manual transmission (we've been patiently trying but he is very frustrated). I aquired a rear crashed 91RS with auto transmission for a donor car.
What parts do I need to transfer over to convert to automatic trans. I can handle all the mechanical like the shifter, trans itself, trans cooler, lines, TB kickdown etc. I'm not sure about the electronics. Do I need to change any sensors, ECM, wiring etc. Does anyone make a kit?

There are a few issues, but no too many. 1st, get a radiator from an auto car as this will have an integrated cooler....and snag the lines while you are there. I am never sure on drive shaft length...but it may be the same as that T5. You'll also need to remove the flywheel and get an appropriate number tooth flexplate. Snag the shifter assemble, center console plate, and the brake pedal as its larger. All torque arm linkage should line up, but you will need to investigate. Also check how and where the VSS connects. Lastly if its a 700R4, you'll need a stand alone switch for the torque convertor clutch lockup. Thats a good start...
Thanks. That's pretty much what I've come up with too, mechanically. I've got everything I need from the crashed 91RS we picked up. There are several mail order places I can get a lockup kit. Will the onboard computer need to be reprogrammed? I'm keeping the lower rear gear ratio, that will go well with the planned new heads, cam, headers.
