Default 82, 305 Carb. Cracked block swap. Manual 4sp transmission.

Hi, I'm new to this site but I was hoping to get a little advice on this 82 Camaro project I've taken on. So for starters the reason I'm doing this is because I made the terrifying mistake of assuming there was antifreeze already in the car going into winter. I went off to college and let my car sit back at home. I came back and got to work on it rebuilding the carb, changing fluids and what not and discovered water was pouring out of a 5 inch crack in the block...😰😢 Lesson learned the very very hard way. So I bout a new block that is pretty much bare, only having the pistons and what not. My project is to pull the old engine out of my car along with the tranny and strip it down, switching the stuff over to the new block, obviously replacing things that need to be replaced. I've never done anything like this before so I'm coming to you for advice! I'm especially worried about/ confused about the timing when I finally get everything put back together with the new block so that I don't blow the engine up right when I fix it. New to this but I am really looking forward to this project. As it stands I have most everything disconnected from the engine/transmission and am almost ready to pull it out. Again any advice is much appreciated. If any more info is need, let me know!!

Thanks!

If you don't already have one get yourself a service manual.
Worried about what timing ,ignition or valve?

It would help to know where you are starting. What exactly did you buy? Is it a short block? a bare block? There is a lot to know about building a engine from a block. There are a LOT of things to screw up besides the timing. There could be compatibility differences with what came with your block and what you already own.
