LOL the 2.5 was the only motor I ever worked that would break head bolts under normal driving condition. Of course all warranty repairs got the heads pulled and all the bolts replaced. I can remember doing 2 of these in one day but if a customer was out of warranty and low on funds we use to extract the broken bolts replacement them pressure test the coolant and send them on their way. Funny thing is I can not remember any of them coming back. I think some of those older designs where a little more forgiving. No way would I just replace a head bolt in a modern 2.4.

Default Iron Duke

Being what they were, they may be worth something later on. You never know. I agree that they should have never been in a Camaro, but that's how many were able to afford the car they wanted.

Yes the S-10 is smaller, lighter and also not a Muscle car. I dont know who thought it would be a good idea to put 1/2 an engine in a muscle car. 3/4 of an engine is fine but 1/2...

I remember when they came out in the Fiero. I would only consider the engine if it could have an Optispark put on it. heck, why not go for all the fun

funny guy here. the Opti isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. it's actually a damn accurate and reliable distributor that usually doesn't fail unless something else does (aka the water pump seal going bad). mine is at over 190k miles on my factory Opti and still going very strong.

You are one of the lucky ones. I was working for GM shortly after I graduated HS (94-95 my first time) and we were getting cars on the lot that would have dead opti units in them. One car never made it off the truck under its own power (95 Impala SS) We had to push it off and then push it into the shop, and that is a heavy car. It turned out to be the Opti that was dead, install a new one car drives away a few weeks later with a happy new owner. I hear that the updated ones work better but I have never owned an LT1 car so I dont know.

Default 2 5 Iron Duke rocks

Man, this place rocks when it comes to real world racers and their real world combos they cite to help the members here...I just had to say that. I was looking for iron-head, stroked-455 threads and just now read through this one.
