Default 1983 Z28 Gauge Cluster Lights

Hey Guys, only a few of my lights actually light up on my dash. 2 work and a third one works sometimes. I took off the dash cover to look around and only see a few burnt out bulbs. I have a few questions....

1) Is there a place where I can get these GE 161 bulbs at a somewhat reasonable price?

2) Behind the Speedo/Odometer Gauge there are a few bulbs that I cannot reach and I cannot seem to find a way to remove this gauge. How can I move this gauge to access the bulbs behind this? I figured that there would be an issue since the odometer is typically in there to avoid tampering. I just want my damn dash lights to work at night >

Thanks for all your help

You can remove the enitre white portion of the gauge cluster after you remove the speedo cable. That is not tampering because you will be replacing bulbs and then replacing the cable. Not to condone tampering, but with so many records during registration, inspections, or emission testing, its very easy to pick up on someone tampering. As far as a source goes, I'm not sure, but it is what it is. It is part of owning a car approaching 30 years old. Be sure to take care not to damage the circuit board film during this process. If you just take your time it is not too difficult of a task.

Okay thank you djs, I just have to find the cable now haha, I'm being really careful with the dash because god knows what is waiting to go, then again maybe I should just start going into everything to keep it sound so there aren't anymore problems.

Out of curiosity, how would you go about removing the speedo cable? and assembling it again? Sorry, I'm a newbie... It took me a long time to get a car.

There is a metal clip in the back of the speedo gauge that needs to be depressed to remove the cable. It is a little tough to get to. I had to lay down in the driver seat to get at it. If you are a small guy its not too tough. The more light you have the better it is to see it.
