Maybe you switch is out of adjustment. Can you turn the key towards you into the accesory position? Did you bother to check your switch? You can inspect it and if there are any burns then that is a sure sign or just replace it. If you suspect the starter and not the switch then check the wires at the starter with a test light while the key is turned in the run possition for power. If ya got power then its the starter or you hooked the wires on the solenoid onto the wrong stud.

The switch is on the bottom of the column. Remove the panels above your feet and it makes it easy to remove the two nuts on a braket that holds the column up and it will drop down enough to get to the switch. you'll see it at the very bottom with two plugs in it and large gauge wires.

You might have to bite the bullet and try bypassing the ignition switch. The only thing I can think of other than a bad solenoid is that one of the wires heading to the solenoid is bad, and it's not getting power, if the starter motor and solenoid are both good.

i guess ill try that tommorow, my frineds a mechanic hes coming over tommorow, but hes really not familiar with third gens

I had a friend wire a push button on the starter solenoid and to the baterry teminal on the starte and he ran it out the hood through the space in between the fender and firewall and ito his car to start it. I could tell you some stories about this guy[&o]

Third gens are old school! If he is a good mechanic he should know where to look and figure it out.
