Default WILL IT WORK?

I have an 84 z28 with a 305 non HO with 5 speed. on it i have hedders 3" flowmaster catback and just a street dom. intake and a 650 edlebrock
The car over heated and i think the (from the sound) bottom end is gone, the car still runs but u can here its broke. I'm going to get a 350 block to replace the 305 but im going to use the same ( old 305 ) heads on it. i need to know what the tranny in my car is, and if it will just bolt up to any old 350 block pls help me its sucks to walk by my car on my way to work

Explain EXACTLY what happened and the sound your car is now making.

Well of course it will bolt up!! its a small block chevy 283, 305,307,327,350 all the same just different bores and strokes. And if its the manual? the bell housing seperates from the tranny. If she overheated like you said? Id pitch the heads there probably warped, anyway why choke down a 350 with 305 heads. More air allows more fuel! gives you more H.P. but if you cant clear it throat (exhaust) then she will not perform.
