What needs to work
ive got a 1979 camaro with a salvage title. i know its a pain to go through but i got a good deal on the car and its in good shape. i got it running but none of the gauges work. does anyone know what needs to be in working condition and what they will be looking for at the inspection? thanks
It all depends on what state you live in, and why the car was "salvaged". Some states require a full safety inspection on all cars on the road anyway, some (like mine) don't require any at all. If your car has a salvage title because of serious damage, the damage needs to be fixed and you need to supply the state with some sort of certification. Again, depending on the state, they may only require a piece of paper, or they may have to actually inspect the car. If the car was "salvaged" because of a theft recovery, you should have less hoops to jump through.
there was a fire under the hood. the wires are all burnt and most of the vaccume hoses are cut but still runs. i live in nys. they say i need to have it inspected at a salvage place to check for stolen parts but i just need to know what has to work and what doesnt.
