Hey, I bought a 1989 Camaro Rs and the guy said it had a stage one proformance chip in it. I belive that is in the computer but I cannot find where it is inside the car. Can anyone explain where it is please? Thanks

 

If its anything like a 92 then its in the dashboard on the passengerside. You have to remove the panel above the foot area and pull out thecomputer toward the floor. Its a shiny metal box.

yea. it will be a PROM chip on the computer. The computer is where camaro said . Its held up with 2 screws. take them out, pull the plugs out GENTLY and then there will be a small door about 4 or 5 inches long, maybe an inch and a half or two inches wide. the prom is directly under that.

Why do you want to remove the Prom ?? Unless you have a replacement the car will not run and if you are not careful static electricity from you can damage the ECM.Not a item to play around with unless you know what you are doing and from your question you don't. One additional note: Those so called perfomance chips do not do much or nothing for your car.

 

Maybe its one of those stage one resitors that go in the air temp sensor plug

maybe not, sounds like its the cheap rip off from ebay. Check under the hood. On the air cleaner assembly there is a small sensor on the back side. The air temp sensor mike was talking about. Look for the plug thats supposed to plug into that. If its got something else ( in a small box) plugged in... theres your " stage one performance chip" and its useless. take it off and plug it in correctly

 

i have a chip for a camaro tunedport its a stage 2 by hypertech its a actual prom chip that goes in the computer. my buddy bought one of them ones off ebay and it is just a fuse holer with a resistor
