what year rear ends will bolt right on?
Im going to a junkyard tomorrow looking for a lower geared rear end (antire rear assy) for my 82 Camaro. Are there any particular GM cars with lower gear ratios that will bolt right on? Anyway to know what gears thay have in them? (other than turning/counting which isnt an option)?
Good luck on finding what you want at a boneyard. They are almost always picked over by now for the rear ratios you are looking for. Most common 3rd gen gen ratios are:
10-bolts....2:73, 3:08, 3:23 and 3:42
9-bolts....2:77. 3:27 and 3:45
Also in almost all cases you will have No way of knowing what the ratio are without counting the gear teeth.

i recomend printing out this entire page: http://sethirdgen.org/reardata.htm it has all the axle data codes for each year and each option. i dont know what part of the axle its on, but i think its the forward passenger side. take goggles, tooth brush, wire brush, flat head screwdrivers, and maybe some mineral oil so you can find the axle code
