Is there some way you can look at the title of the car or registration to get the model info? If you see IROC or Z28 mentioned anywhere, it's a V8. If it doesn't specify these things, it's probably a V6.

If it's a V8, they probably would have made it very clear to you while they were trying to sell it - "...and it's got a V8!!!" If it has a V6, they may not have tried to sell you on that (don'tmean tooffend the V6 people). I'm just trying to think of ways you could tell without popping the hood or listening to it to figure it out.

Either way...didn't you look under the hood while you bought it?

In a 3rd gen the V6 is awkwardly small underneath the hood...I can probably stand between the radiator and engine in my 92...

You can get the VIN and go to carfax.com and run a standard report (which is free) and it will tell you what stock engine and model you have. The operative word here is STOCK. If you want to know for sure count the spark plug wires on one side of the block, 3 = V6, 4 = V8.

EDIT: found this, check the 8th digit of the VIN and match it to what is below

T = 191ci, V6 (LH0)[1990-1992]
E = 305ci, V8 (LO3)[TBI][1988-1992]
F = 305ci, V8 (LB9)[Tuned Port Injection]
8 = 350ci, V8 (L98)[Tuned Port Injection]

But I did'nt know half the **** he was saying. I just wanted it 'cuz I always wanted a Camaro since I was a kid. So now I'm trying to improve the car. So thanks for the help guys.

That's an awesome ride. Congrats. I'm in the same boat as you about notknowing much. I'm learning little by little and people will tell you that I've asked my share of noob questions. The cool thing about the internet and this forum (imo) is that I feel like I can ask whatever lame crap I want and not feel embarrassed because it's just a bunch of weird screen names talking back and forth to each other. It's not like you're asking your classmates/friends/co-workers. So ask away!

I also like this forum because it's mostly people who are only interested in kindly offering info or people who are kindly asking for it. It has seemed to me, in the past, that a lot of car people in real life (especially along the teen years) are pretty condescending when asked questions like "where's the air box?," like most of them are only interested in proving they know a lot more than you do and try to make you feel bad for having the nerve to ask such an unworthy question.

I work in an I.T. department - computer people are really bad about the same kind of thing. We get some crazy questions. Sometimes we practically have to take people's index finger in our hand and press the ON button for them (I'm almost not joking). But I try to remember how I've felt vulnerable when asking questions about stuff I wasn't a guru about and kindly help them out. Not everyone's an expert at everything.
