v-6 to a v-8....how hard
How hard will it be to go from a v-6 to a v-8 (305 or 350). Will i have to change the wiring harness. Also, would i have to weld on new motor mounts or do they make some bolt ones. Finally, will any cutting be involved? Im new to the amercan muscle world and i just need some help on this stuff. I would have searched, but I need to work and i figured somebody could help me here faster.
You would have to use the engine wires to what ever engine you put in. You cant put in a TPI motor and expect to use the same wiring as the 6. The motor mounts should just unbolt to use small block mounts. Since the cars came with V8 and V6's the swap is easy.
Yeah the actual swap shouldn't be very hard, nor should there be any cutting involved. You will need a new wiring harness, and you will have to update your cars computer. Also if you are swapping to a V8 DO NOT get a 305. If you're making the swap anyway get a crate engine that will make good power for the money like the 350. I'm telling you now you most likely will not get even 200 hp stock from the 305 and it is not work as well with mods.If you get a GM Performance crate engine (350) they make one for around 2K it will put out 290 hp stock as far as torque around 360.
my personal preference would be to do a TPI swap, its easy, efficent, and its FUEL INJECTION. if you need tips lemme know i just did a full TPI swap on my Monte SS
