ok so i started gettin dirty and checkin vacuum hoses... found something disturbing when i jacked it up... theres a hose that connects to something behind the driverside headlight... looks kinda like a booster of sorts??? sorry im not real familiar with engines--only minor repairs lol... anyway... i started the car and i covered the opening of the hose and the car seemed to choke and when i uncovered it it seemed to start idling like it was then it died... my question is where does this hose go :\

should be a vacuum reserve tank. keeps the power brakes from fading.

is that hose important? would it cause it to stall? or is it just for brakes?

to the reserve tank.. yes... the other end of the hose... a mystery to me as to where it goes
when i try to start the car if i hold the choke close 9 times out of 10 it will start but regardless of what i do to the choke or throttle it still dies... i think i counted 8 seconds before it dies... also hear a lot of air coming from carb... i know you can hear a little air coming from it when the filter is off but im thinking that this is too much... possibility that the gasket from carb to block could have a leak???

Try and post a picture of what is behind that head light. There is a small black ball that is used for cruise control and a black canister. The canister is for evaporative emissions, or gas vapor from your gas tank. It is possible this is plugged up and is contributing to your problem. If you have a q-jet, make sure all the vacuum lines are correct and your gaskets aren't leaking. Do you every get the car running long enough to get it to operating temp?

On the drivers side radiator core support, next to the radiator, is the emissions vacuum canister. It has/had 2 hoses to it. The left one (as you're looking under the hood) goes to the gas tank, the right one goes to the Evap purge TVS (temperature vacuum switch) which is in the intake manifold, near the thermostat housing. The other hose then leads to the canister control valve. The control valve has 3 other hoses, one to an engine vacuum hose, the other 2 to the intake manifold below the carb. Sounds like some of that "stuff" may have been ripped out, or maybe just disconnected.
Oh, and one more thought. If some of that stuff was ripped out, and the vacuum hoses left unplugged, the engine can run crappy.

ok im going to sound even more stupid but i have no idea where to find those on this engine... i dont have a lot of money to spend on mechanic shops so if its something that i can do myself i would rather do that... i do have minor mechanical experience but only with minor bs... i will up load a video in the morning of what its doing when it actually cranks up...
