Ugh still isnt acting right
ok so i had my carb rebuilt finally and installed it this morning... went to start it and at first it wasnt start which i could understand as it was dry... finally got fuel into it and it started up with a little hesitation... then it choked out the same exact way it was before i had it rebuilt... i dont have time to deal with my mechanic as he does s*** when he gets around to it so i need to know what i need to do... ive been without my car for way too long... would it be best to get a new carb and see if it still gives the same problems? or is there something i can do to fix this prob... to me it seems kinda like its getting too much air but i dont know enough about carbs to say what exactly its doing... all i know is that its doin the exact same thing it was before i had it rebuilt... someone please help!!!
it will start up and run for maybe 10-15 seconds sometimes... other times might only start and then immediately die out. when it starts to choke out i tap the gas n then it chokes completely and then theres other times that it will rev up high and then when i let off it chokes... at one point sounded lik a burst of air came from my carb like it might have been getting too much air???
did you change the fuel filter? you can try choking it while its running to see if its a fuel shortage. start it and try and raise the rpms. if it tries to die close the choke a little to see if it will rev up, if not close a little more, the idea is to help the fuel get to the carb and if the fuel pump is going or theres a stopage in the line (plugged filter, crimped fuel line, blockage in the tank) the car should run better with choke closed if there is fuel shortage to the system.
ive tried all that... choke was closed and was still dying. didnt even hav a chance to adjust rpms or anything... the choke stays closed when i start it. it only opens when i press on the accelerator. really wish i knew more about carbs :\
another thing is my mechanic somehow lost 1of the bolts to the front fuel bowl and i have no idea where to get a replacement. he said he ordered 1 last week but have yet to get it. hes one of those "tomorrow never comes" kinda people. so i know i also need to get that as well as the little plastic seal that goes on it. im on an extremely tight budget and have looked at ace hardware for 1 and they have similar bolts but all are too long and too thick. any ideas of where i can get one?

ok have you tryed holding the choke open or pulled a plug to see if its flooding. if its not flooding then its a shortage of fuel. you will want to check fuel pressure at the carb connection to make sure your getting flow there. if so then its in the carb, either a plugged screen or stuck float. have a look at this for some basic info.

yah i tried to post a link and that was what i got. click the yellow bar to get to the utube site. you might try the holley home site. have you tried asking your local auto parts store, im sure its probly a metric bolt so you might try a equipment or steel outlet or store.
Was your car originally carbureted or fuel injection? If FI, and you're still using the electric fuel pump without a fuel pressure regulator, your carb will overflow and choke out the engine.
and as for the original engine--i believe it was either a 305 or 350 tpi and the previous owner converted it over to the holley 600 thats on there now. it does have an electric fuel pump and also has a mechanical fuel pump--both of which are hooked up and running thru a fuel pressure regulator on the way to the carb. i have tried adjusting it from between 3.5-5.5lbs and still the same out come...
