I have a 89 rs with a first generation 350 in it. My transmission is junk. I dont know much about transmissions. I was looking to buy a used one thats in good shape. What kind should I look for?

 

Your need to look for a 700R4 for starters.

 

the 700r4 is a great tranny no doubt. Thats likely whats already in it, but you may habe the t-5 ( the manual transmission). If you do and your wanting to upgrade, you can go with a tko 500 or a tko 600. Even with the t-56 which is what they put in the SS and corvette, among other models. If you have an auto and would like to keep it that way, you may even look for a turbo 350 or 400 transmission, no overdrive so youll need to add one if your concerned about that, also some modification has to be done i think... but im not sure what. Sorry. Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction

 

it is an automatic. I wish it was manual. would it be expensive to swap? What would I have to do?

 

If you do have a 350 just go with another one. That way it will go back in the same way.
If you go with a 700R4/4L60 you will have to work on the crossmember, shifter for a 4 speed, controler for a lock up converter, TV cable onto your throttle linkage and shorten the drive shaft.

 

It has a 350 motor. Im not sure what type of transmission it has.

 

Oh. Your post titled transmission help lead me to assume some one had put a TH350 in it.
