Deezil, what motor are you swapping out? If you're removing another v8 then you shouldn't have any problems with the 350. But if you're removing a 60 deg. V6 then you might need more than just the bell housing. I quite sure the v6 5spd trans and the v8 5spds are different.

That's correct. The trannies won't bolt on to an engine from their counterpart blocks, but any trans mounted to a SBC Gen I will bolt to any other Gen I SBC. As for the size of the clutch, I couldn't tell you, as I've only ever had to change one clutch, and that was in my Cavalier.

Actually, come to think of it, you may wanna try bleeding the system if you're able to do so.

chances are, the clutch is bad. its just a t-5, with a 350 bolted up to it. The thing has over 200k on it. Granted the first 185k had the 305, but who knows how hard they drove that thing with that engine. And i havent exactly been, easy, on it all the time. Its not a big deal, not a real expensive fix, just, time consuming. But i figured out its a 10.5"x 1 1/8" and a 28 spline clutch. Should i get the heavy duty one? its another 200 bucks is why i ask. Since its just a t-5, i understand from this website that its not really made to take any real power, which im not sure of total numbers from this thing, but im gona guestimate around 275 to 290 ish. Give or take seeing as how im not a walking dyno. And i have more upgrades planned in the future, still debateing if im gona go to the t56 or not though. But let me know what ya think about getting a heavy duty one instead. im leaning toward a meduim duty as i sit right now. Since it will be a long time before im getting any REAL power, im probably just gona keep this tranny for awhile, and with it having as many miles on it as it does, i dont wanna spend to much money on it, since i MAY be going to the t-56 anyhow. which is why im leanin toward a medium duty type clutch.

I thought those transmissions were supposed to be reall strong. I think its torque that breaks them, Not hp. I know in my supra, The 5 speed r154 can take over 600 hp (from a stock 230), Because I think the turbo L6 doesnt beat on the transmission as bad as a v8 would, Its all smooth top end power. But anyways, If i get a v8 700r4 again, How much power can you put to a 700r4 with an upgraded cooler, shiftkit, and a new TC? Im getting a slightly used GM crate motor, 330hp/380 ft lbs of torque, What mods/parts on the trans will be safe with that and a 700r4? Oh and to help the OP you dont need the transfer case. And if you get that trans, You will need a new tail shaft because the TC has a different tailshaft than a regular 2wd trans. But he might just be mistaken and it miht not have a transfer case.

That'd be the clutch I would put in there.

In response to Isphius, Torque is, in fact what breaks a trans most of the time, since it's applied imediately, and with great authority, and HP is gradual, and doesn't put as much stress on anything. The T-5 was never meant to take much power, which is why it's rare to find a 350 with a T-5. The 700r4 I have heard of running 400 horses through it, but I'm not sure how long it lasted, or how well it handled it.
