my fluid is only a year old, but is starting to get a tad brown. how hard is it to flush out the old and put in new syn fluid? i also wanted to swap the pan to a finned aluminum one. my brother says i have to drain fluid out of the torque converter, and im better off getting a shop to do it. any advice, and if it can be done at home, in the driveway, in a day, with simple hand tools? its a 700r4

 

If the fluid is only a year old and it is turning brown, you have problems. Your other question: A steel pan will bend and a cast aluminun will crack. Guess which one I have.

 

Your not going to flush and get fluid out of the converter in your driveway. Unless you have the machine.
If you want a pan that cools there are steel pans with tubes in them that air flows though for cooling.

 

the fluid isnt a vibrant red like it would be brand new, it just has a slight brown hue to it. i also checked it when it was cold, i dont know if that could have been the problem. the best i can find steel wise are the ribbed ones. do you know where i can get ones that have tubes through them? i thought of buying a trans cooler, but i dont think that would be good for daily driving with occasional racing and cruising.

thanks. jegs has it cheaper, i guess i didnt check their entire listings. however, it holds an extra quart. wouldnt that mean it sits lower? i already have a pretty tight clearence with my driveway as it is.

 

Its the extra distance for the tubes. You cant put the tubes in a stock pan because the filter sits close to the bottom. I dont know your drive way but once the front wheels go up the hump it raises the center of the car.

 

the driveway isnt a dip, its a hump on the top of a hill. my cat clears it by about half an inch, and it scrapes with a full tank of gas. i think somewhere along the line, my car may have been lowered, it sits pretty dang low
