Default Tranny Fluid DEXRON 2 vs DEXRON 3

Real Quick. I was fl;ippin through my chilton's and decided i wanted to change my tranny fluid. I hava 92 z28 with the BW T-5 manual tranny. it called forDEXRON II ATF ( for the manual tranny!!!!!). So i went ahead and bought 2 gallons of DEXRON III (3), knowing that dex 3 is backwards compatible. Now I dont know if this will be okay to use in my car, but im pretty sure, i dont want to screw anything up, by puttin different fluid in. Can anyone verify this for me? Also what fluiddo you guys put in yourmanual cars? Thanks

That is what GM used in there, but I have heard of people using a heavier single weight motor oil, or even 75w90 gear oil (ATF is right around a 10 weight). None of those should have any trouble in that transmision, though, the heavier the weight, the more parasitic draw from the tranny (this likely won't be noticable unless you're in a higher racing class, which I kinda doubt)
