Timing Line...???

Timing Line...???
So ive been having recent problems with my IROC z28 5.0 305 tbi. I finally was able to get the damn thing timed, but now there seems to be this other problem. I tried to check some of the vaccuum valves and lines, but i didnt see anything wrong. I pulled off the tank press. control valve and blew threw it and it seemed fine. I have no idea were else to look.
When I drive it the RPM gauge bounces around the car also sputters like its going to stall out.. When its in idle it sounds like it has small backfires, not loud but noticable, when I release the accelerator. Also in idle the RPM gauge dosnt bounce as noticabely. Its almost like im supposed to drive it and change gears in a lower RPM range. I cant really let all the power go when I accelerate.
I have another question about the timing, is the timing line supposed to move as the car accelerates? thetiming line is at is 6 degrees at idleand when I accelerate it goes past 12 degrees...
PLEASE REPLY......

RE: Timing Line...???
when you were setting the timing did you disconnect the timing connector? if not the computer will adjust the timing right back where it was. and the timing mark on the balancer will move when the engine is revved to to spark advance built into the PROM chip....that's normal and suposed to happen.

I looked into my General motors handbook and i dont see where the timing connector is.is it obvious or do i have to pull some parts to get to it... that sounds like exactly what it may be doing.
