timing
I need help with my timing. i bought a 350 from my buddy to put in my 84 for z28. the motor is out of a 69 rs/ss. the guy i bought it from had the motor rebuilt and he put a big cam in the thing and had it degreed and bored 30 over. where should i set my timing.
in a situation like that, there is no set timing spec. , you have to play it by ear. but i would start with a base timing to 12-14 to start with and go from there. if the engine has "valve rattle" (detonation) under a load , bring the timing down a couple degrees till the "rattle" goes away. if the engine doesn't rattle bring it up a couple degrees untill you get rattle and then bring it back down 2 degrees. if the timing is to high it will have a hard crank when the engine is at operating temp also.
