i have a 327 block/heads that my dad gave me as an x-mas present one year. started as a full engine and we started rebuilding it together. came out a of 68ish chevy c-10. the block is already machined and preped for assembly. jusdt need to put it together. im thinking about making it a mild build maybe 350ish hp at the crank and about the same amount of torque. do you guys think it is resonable to do this with a 327? i would think so. i dont really see it being much of an issue nor do i see it being too expensive. is there anything i should look into doing like a different set of heads or something?

 

Getting to 350 h.p. should be no problem. Chevy was getting 350 back in the 60's in the 327 Vette. That was with 11:1 c.r. though, so you would need to run premium gas. Or you could keep the compression lower and make it up with a good set of aluminum heads.

 

That's the ticket right there.

I like built 327's,they rev almost like a DZ302 but with torque almost like a 350.

It should all bolt up fine, you'll want to watch what kind of water pump you have. I did run into some problems with the studs in the pump that go to the power steering. I just needed different length studs. Other than that it should be fine. Is it serpentine?

 

my 305 now is v-belt.

 

Just be sure to get the right kind of water pump. You don't want one made for your year car, because it would be a reverse flow, even though it would bolt up to the 327.
And don't ask for one for a 327 either, because they used the short style water pump due to the vintage of when the 327 was used.
Ask for a long style water pump for a 350, any 1969 and up car application (except for a Vette which still used the short one). It will bolt up just fine.

 

....why would the one the flows the way my 327 flows be wrong. is it because the way the belts run end up making the water pump flow the opposite way its supposed to?

 

went and got the 327 block heads and intake. forgot that my dad had put an aftermarket intake on it. idk how good it is but its a weiand brand and the only numbers i found on it was 8004. wondering if its any good.
