Bad news, One of the most command mistakes installing an automatic trans is not seating the converter correcly. The bad part is IF that is what happened and you tighened the motor all the way to the trans then the converter is damaged and the front pump is shot. The motor should have not wanted to go together and fought you the last 1/4-1/8". Also normally people have a tuff time getting the converter bolted up once everthing get tight
The Converter will need evaluated to see if it can be saved the trans should go to the shop to have the front pump replaced. Depending on what they find they may need to disassemble some of the tranny to verify no metal go into it. The only advice I can give is make sure you blow out the tranny lines real good incase there is some metal in there.
When installing a torque converter you want the three click rule. Slowly turn the converter until you heard the three click. When it is in right the distance from the front of the trans face to the bolt pad on the converter should be greater the then distance from the back face of the motor to the bolt face of the fly wheel. When its all done right you should have to pull the converter foeward a little to put the bolts in.
