Is it just the tach not working, or is your engine actually revving that high?

By now, a malfunctioning tach is almost considered "normal" for the 90-92 Camaros. Mine used to read about double, and I learned to just live with it. Kept my math skills sharp!

i wouldnt mind if it was off some but its continuosly maxed, it only moves when i start the car. would taking the cluster off and manually moving the needle back down do anything?

It's an electronic problem, not a physical one. Moving the needle isn't going to fix it. Besides, yours still drops to zero with the key off, right? You would be better off trying to find another tach on ebay and swap yours out. Since it's a common problem, be sure to get one from where the seller took it out of his own car, and will guarantee you that it reads accurately.

That's weird! Have you tried hitting it with a hammer?
So it stays pegged with the key off or on? But goes down to 3k when you crank the engine? It's almost like it's working backwards from how it should! What happens with the needle if you disconnect the battery?
