Default Start up issue

I've got an 86 Iroc Z28 that seems to not want to start up willingly.

Everything will crank and it'll seem like it wants to start just won't.
Also had an issue about week ago when it sat for 5-10 minutes when I went back to start up the battery was completely drained. Nothing was left on and everything was locked up so don't know what could have caused the drain and am thinking that is part of the reason as to why it gives so much trouble.

Also on another note the auto choke doesn't engage itself anymore when you start the car up, Haven't really thought much of it until these issues started coming up in case that may have something to do with it as well.

what have u done so far? plugs, dist cap, fuel filter, plug wires, ignition modual? the choke not working will make it start hard but if starving for gas with a carb u should be able to pump the gas a few times to help it start. wont want to stay started at an idle untill its warmed up if the choke is the problem. if the alternator regulator is screwing up it can drain the battery, have it checked. see if the little wire on the alt has juice when the key is off. does it run better when the battery is fully charged or at any time come to think of it?

I haven't really done anything to it yet, this is used more for casual driving then anything else. Yes it does start when pumping the gas but even then it likes to fight me from time to time. Was also planning on just taking the alt out and having it tested just to be safe. Otherwise I'll look into what you suggested.

just tune er up, new fuel filter and fix the choke and see what happens. and yah most likely the alt. i always dump the old fuel filter out in a jar so i can see if there is any water or crud in the tank making its way up.
