Default Smoke after 55mph

Ok guys...I need a little help here. I got a 1980 Z28 350, whenever im driving around and drive faster than 55, white smoke comes out of my exhaust. Now to give ya a lil back story, last summer i heard a clicking noise on the passenger side. Sounded almost like an exhaust leak. So trying to be optimistic and thinking its a simple job...i got better connectors for my headers to the exhaust...well sound was still tehre...did a compression check...everyhthing was perfect. Now we took the valve covers off..and checked the lifters and rods...well they were wayy off, and turns out my cam is wearing down on the last 2 lobes..so we tightened the lifters down, everything is solid, no more cam problem either...but still...after 55 mph white smoke is coming out...and im afraid to drive much more in case something give..Any Ideas!?!?

please help out!

mike

Well, a simple fix would be to drive no faster than 54 mph.
But seriously, are you noticing your antifreeze disappearing on you? Have you checked the level in your radiator?
White smoke generally means you're burning antifreeze, which could be from a blown head gasket, a leaking intake manifold gasket, or a cracked cylinder wall.

ya white is usually steam, but I like the 54 MPH issue too. much easier then a head gasket. LOL.

I had an 86 f150 that was blowing white smoke. went through the standard trouble shooting ended up that I just needed to rebuild the carb. I dont know if it will be a fix for you but I thought I would just throw it out there as an option.

what kinda trans you running.....ive dealt with similar problems......if its a turbo 350 with a modulator valve on the trans it may not be any good.....it pulls vacuum from the engine and may be burning trans fluid, check tranny fluid. guys with most head gaskets the car will usually smoke almost immediately.....
