Heater core leak? That's all I can think of.

I mean, the heater core is used when defoggers are used, I think.

If you smell antifreeze inside the car, especially with the heat on, you have a heater core leak. It may only be a slight one right now, but it will get worse. Keep an eye on the vents for steam to start to coming out. When it gets to that point, you don't have a lot of time left before she really pukes.

you can run a product called bars leaks stop leak. its only a temporary fix until you can replace the heater core, but it will work for a little while

Yea, its best not to wait around forever waiting for it to puke. I had one completely go out in an old VW fox when I was a teen ager, it shot 200+degree water out of the vents at me. I had to jump out of the moving car....no joke it sucked.

Had it happen to me a couple years ago in my old 79 Vette. It didn't go very long from the "smell" stage to having a total "fog storm" inside the car. Seriously, I couldn't see out the windshield! Luckily I was right near a gas station and had tools with me. Formed a loop with the heater hose to bypass the core, went inside and bought some coolant, and was back on the road.

I didn't get a fog storm....only green liquid out of the vent and floor. I had some nasty burns on my face, chest, and arms. Would have been worse had I not bailed. Luckily it was back country Pa roads, and it just went into a field. Bottom line, get it fixed sooner than later.

^Nice! And that Bar's Leak is good stuff. Actually it's more of a permanent fix. I used it to seal up my head gaskets last summer and it's still running on it. Good stuff!
