should i keep the 305
I have a 83 crossfire which has given me so many head aches, the crossfire just doesnt put out any type of numbers . The motor is on its last leg and i have started buying parts to fully rebuild it as a forged roller 305. I was wondering if any one esle has built a forged roller 305 that can give me some insight in choice of heads and cam. The plans down the road are to run a T56 trans and spray a 200 shot.
I believe you would do better to consider converting to a 350 crate engine. Hope you haven't spent too much on parts, I would look at that option. Not sure what you mean by "forged roller" - I'm assuming you mean forged cran, etc, and roller cam lifter cam, etc.
I agree that the 350 swap would be the easy way, all i have bought is a proform 650 carb and a performer air gap manifold, which i can put on a 350 if i change my mind. I just cant see buying a crate motor and then having to break it down to put forged internals in it. The only questionable part is if i am going to spend more money converting my cam to a roller cam and installing forged internal compare to the power i would get with the more displacement of a 350. I just want a stong motor that can handle a supercharger or spray. My question is if anyone has found a head that puts out really good numbers on a 305, should i go with a vortec head? Aluminum? Iam really lost on what type of head to use and what size, i want to have a compression ratio of around 10.1.
